Salivary Glands
2020, Gnepp's Diagnostic Surgical Pathology of the Head and Neck, Third EditionParotid gland metastases of distant primary tumours: A diagnostic challenge
2016, Auris Nasus LarynxCitation Excerpt :They suggest that 10–20% of all parotid metastases may be distant and arise from primary tumours arising from the lung, kidney and breast, and our series of 644 parotidectomy cases, where 14% of all metastatic lesions were from infraclavicular primary tumours, and correspond with previous reports. Parotid metastases from primary tumours located in the gastrointestinal tract, prostate, and infraclavicular skin and soft tissues are more rare [1,3–11]. Metastases are thought to develop through direct infiltration of the gland from surrounding structures as well as through lymphogenous and haematogenic dissemination of tumour cells into the gland [4,12].
Oral cavity and oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma with metastasis to the parotid lymph nodes
2011, Oral OncologyCitation Excerpt :Our clinical experience suggests that SCC of the upper aerodigestive tract with parotid metastasis most often arises from the oral cavity or oropharynx. However, the current medical literature contains only small series with 8 or fewer patients.1,4,5 We report the largest series, to our knowledge, of parotid metastasis from oral and oropharyngeal SCC.
Metastatic neuroendocrine carcinomas to the head and neck: report of 4 cases and review of the literature
2009, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology and EndodontologyCitation Excerpt :The major salivary glands are an uncommon site for systemic metastasis. A study with 866 metastatic tumors to the parotid gland showed that only 2.8% emanated from pulmonary neoplasms.8 Here, we report 4 rare cases of metastatic NEC to the jaws and major salivary glands.
