2019, Comprehensive Overview of Modern Surgical Approaches to Intrinsic Brain TumorsEvidence for Improving Outcome Through Extent of Resection
2019, Neurosurgery Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :An increasing body of evidence suggests that greater extent of resection and lower volume of tumor residual extends both overall (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Extent of tumor resection in addition to younger patient age, tumor histology (oligodendroglioma vs astrocytoma), patient functional status, and molecular subclassification (1p19q codeletion, isocitrate dehydrogenase [IDH] 1 or 2 mutation status) are predictive of outcome.2–7 Cytoreduction through maximal resection plays a central role in the management of gliomas.
